Final Portfolio

A successful writer should have the knowledge of being a good researcher. This allows you to use the work, and get ideas in your own writing. It’s good to be open to critics. Open to criticism is perfect, because you can get feedback to improve your writing skills. On the other hand by listening to others, you’re motivating yourself to always push for improvement, and become a better writer.
Yes I have become a successful writer, but with limitation. A successful writer should be able to do a vast range of writing, with no hesitation. Personally, I have more confidence without hesitation in one kind of writing which is a narrative piece than any others. When it comes to other types of writing, I feel embarrassed and kind of weak as a writer sometimes. I have preferences. A successful writer is supposed to have no limitation at all. I am not too confident in all kinds of writing, which is something I really need to work on. I think when I master this then I will be a really successful writer.

Eng 095 Essay 2

                                                            Fast Food                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                               English-095-11

Your stomach rumbles while you’re in the middle of traffic. It seems as if you won’t be home for another hour, which means missing dinner with three young children in the back. As you look to your right you see that big yellow arch. You yell to the kids, “Who wants Mickey’s?” as they all scream with joy. Another dinner taken care of; the convenience of fast food appeals to consumers, and they do not mind paying a high price for it. The convenience of the fast food chains hides the fact of how it is damaging the health of Americans.
People are unaware of the ingredients used in the fast food industry. Those ingredients are not real; they encompass a lot of chemicals, and no nutrients at all. Those compounds are organ destructors which lead to health complications, obesity, and cravings as well.
For some individuals fast food is hard to give up because they crave it. It seems like for those consumers, eating fast food is the only way for them to feel satisfied. Although fast food will never feel you up. In the article” Fast food and Personal Responsibility, by Ninos P. Malek, Attorney Samuel Hirsch explains that certain food can lead you to heart diseases, diabetes, and high blood pressure.” However, two hours after a consumption of fast food, consumers find themselves, not only hungry again but craving more.
Fast food consumers are addicted to it. Unfortunately it’s convenient for them to stop by, and grab a bite to eat. It is a fast pleasure to take their family out for a cheap lunch and dinner, in one of these restaurants. These customers make the producers happy, on the contrary destroying themselves.
Most of the Americans who consume unhealthy food, end up with health complications. The FDA didn’t pay close attention to the fast food chain producers. When it comes to business manners the producers ideas count. In the next decade the fast food consumers should stand for themselves, being vigilant concerning their health and their families before it’s too late.

Fast Food Paraphrase

Fast Food Paraphrase

For many years, most of American families have been craving fast food. This society is unaware that fast food is very unhealthy. The nutrition facts they provide are not factual. It seems to me that, the F D A Department and members doesn’t pay close attention to the consumers’ health when it comes to business manners. The producers’ ideas count. As a result, most of the Americans’ family who consumes unhealthy food, lead to health complication: heart disease; diabetes; and high blood pressure. The fast food consumers should stand for themselves, by being vigilant about their health and their family. (Fast food and Personal Responsibility Ninos P. Malek. January 2003)

I am not a fast food consumer:
·         It’s hard to give up for some people because of conveniency.
·         The fast food corporation make $ while American’s health goes down
·         People are unaware of what is used in the industry( how it doesn’t even  fill you up.

In the article, the author Paul Krugman’s point of view is very explicit about Martin Luther King’s “I have a dream” speech which I agree with. In the third paragraph, he mentions in his quote about a new nation, that everyone should have the same shot. Unfortunately it is a tough task in term of equality, and to ban segregation. From the past into the present, this nation has made a lot of progress. The African American’s have a great part in the career trade, but the racism issue is still exist. When it comes to paychecks, many African American continue to realize how their paychecks are still on the shorter end compared to Caucasians.

More often, the Caucasian’s income is almost double the African American’s. It could simply be by coincidence but in many aspects Caucasians are favored to do higher paying positions over African American’s. I hope in the next hundred years from now, we’ll get another Martin Luther King, because the dream about America being “The new nation” started years ago and has a long way that it still needs to go. We’re still far from the purpose of that dream. It is incredible how one man’s words and acts of non violence started a revolution that lasted for long life. This has to be done.

Things I would like to change

The first thing that I would like to change is in my home life. At home, it is only my daughter and I. Sometimes I feel overwhelmed with work and I would appreciate it if she would help me more then she already does sometimes.

The second thing that I would like to change is in my community. In Cambridge there are many Youth Centers where they provide after school programs and recreational activities to the families of the city, but many children do not participate because they are not interested. I would hope that there would be more activities that would encourage the 16-18 year old kids to participate in the Centers instead of simply having an open center where they can play sports and just hang out.

The last and final thing that I would like to change is in my relationship with my daughter. We are very close but at many times we butt heads a lot and it causes for us to have many unnecessary quarrels. Now that she is 18 I would like for us to have more understanding with each other as she now enters the stage of becoming a mature young adult.

A Childhood Crime Essay

A    Childhood      Crime

When I was a child in my country Haiti, I had a cousin named Vanessa who was two years older than me. She always called me names, so we were always getting into fights over every little thing. One day, we quarreled over something and I got punished. To get revenge for that, I was on a mission to get her in trouble, so she would get punished also. As a result, we both got into trouble for my Childhood Crime.
When I was a child, I lived in a family of height: my mom, my dad, four brothers, myself, and my cousin Vanessa, who was my mom's goddaughter. It was a beautiful Christmas day, and as usual we all opened up our presents. My cousin Vanessa got a doll from Santa Claus. That doll had the most beautiful dress. It was a pretty satin lavender dress with ruffles. Its eyes were shiny brown and its hair seemed the perfect kind to comb through. The doll was amazing and I preferred it over my doll, which was beautiful but looked like nothing compared to Vanessa’s. The following night, I decided to switch her doll with mine, just so I could sleep holding her doll even if it was for one night. The next morning she woke up and realized that she did not have her doll and we got into a fight. We pulled and tugged on both ends of the doll, yelling and screaming until finally we heard, “Riiiiip.” We gasped as her doll ripped in half. She began to cry, as a mother would cry for her child. When everyone came in to see what had transpired, they called me a "The doll murder," and I got punished.

After a week of doing my punishment chores, which was making breakfast and dinner for the house, I got even more upset. All I did was rip her doll and I had to do all of these chores, while she was a bed wetter and she never got in trouble for it because she had suddenly stopped. I got an idea. While she was sleeping I snuck a balloon full of water under her bed sheet, so she would be punished. The next morning she got punished for wetting the bed, no matter how hard she tried to tell my mother and Aunt that she had not. For a few days she was very unhappy about the situation, so she gave me the silent treatment as if    I wasn't alive. I did the same. I was happy and considered that we were even.
A month later, when we were both off of punishment, my brother told me he knew that I had to have wet Vanessa's bed, so I told him what had happened. He went straight to my mother’s ears to tell her. This caused me to get a double punishment because I had made her go through punishment for something she really did not do. For two consecutive Sundays I couldn’t go to the movies with my friends  as I always did. I also had to do Vanessa’s house chores for two weeks. It was horrible, and it made me angry, especially with my younger brother. This little boy was my baby godson, and he called me "My little mom." This is why I never went after him. I love him and I still do.
That punishment made me very wrathful, and I planned another comeback on Vanessa again. One night I took a small bed sheet, and I tied her up in bed while she was sleeping. Early in the morning, when she realized what I did, we got into another fight. This time I punched her in the face. Obviously, she got a big cut on her lower eyelid. They brought her to the hospital where she got six stitches. Everyone was outraged at me. My mother was tired of punishing me, so she decided to banish me to my grandmother's house, where I stayed for almost two years, hoping that would do the trick.

The two years that I spent over there taught me a lesson. I realized that my behavior kept me away from my whole family, even my childhood companions. I comprehended how crazy a child could be at a certain age. I went to my cousin’s house to apologize, which was well needed and it was accepted. We spent the whole week laughing and making jokes over all the fights and arguments we had. This caused us to spend more time together and appreciate each other. The time we spent together was not spent merely as cousins, but like sisters. We were sorry for all the trouble we had caused each other. I felt very bad about myself. Since that day until now, I can see that Vanessa is a woman with a gregarious personality.

When I was in seventh grade, there were two twin sisters named Sarah-Jeanie and Sarah-Josie. They made an assumption about me one day, and it caused the whole class to call me a name that I did not like. Miss Loretta was our teacher. Miss Loretta kept close attention to the twins, because they were very turbulent. For that reason, they didn’t like her much. Miss Loretta was deathly afraid of any animal that looked like a lizard, because she was severely allergic to their skin. Therefore, one morning, they sneaked a fake gecko into the teacher’s drawer, underneath the attendance list. The first culprit that came to Miss Loretta’s mind was the twin sisters. The principal intervened, and they got suspended for a week, because they did it intentionally to scare her. Unfortunately, that day I was the teacher’s monitor, so they blamed me of tattle-tailing, and called me the teacher’s pet. I was very upset that day. For two days they called me the teacher’s pet and it hurt my feelings a lot, because I had not even known they put the fake gecko there. Their cousin Danielle saw that I was feeling hurt and revealed the secret; she was the one who told. Afterwards, they apologized to me. The assumption hurt me, but the apology made me feel better.

Cause And Effect--Final Draft

I remember how I was in the year of 2000 an energetic young woman with a lot of expectations for my future. Unfortunately a work injury swerved my life, and my family's all around. I work as a Nursing Assistant at Aborjona Nursing Center on the third shift. One night, Mr Macdonald who was a very demanding resident was assigned to me. That night , while I was walking Mr Donald, he kicked the walker, and lost his balance. To prevent him from being injured, with a quick reflex I gabbed his arm. Suddenly we both fell on the floor. After the incident report they sent me to the nearby hospital for observation. I was diagnosed with a rotator cuff injury, that kept me away from work, and from school. Finally, here I am back in school with determination to get a certificate in the medical field, and be on my feet for a better life.

This is the reason why I am still in school now with determination to get a certificate, and get back on my feet for a better life.

My final draft

Last year before the end of the summer, my whole family went to my cousin's house, to spend the last week of summer with her  in Leominster. We drove there on a Sunday evening. The next morning was very nice. There was birds chirping, aroma's of barbecue's in back yards, that made us want to go out and to enjoy the beautiful weather. At this point, my daughter came with the idea of planning a family picnic which we all agreed with that. We rounded up fresh fruit, grill ready meat, toys, blankets and beach towels. Then headed up to Johny Apple Seed Park. When we got there, we took a tour through the park. At first, I heard a noise, like a grasshopper's sound, I wasn't too sure about what it was. However, when we got to the lake,I heard a louder noise that seemed to be much closer. Then I saw a massive thing jump towards me. It was difficult to describe, I yelled, " Help! Help" ! I was so terrified because what I saw, was an enormous, red, yellow-eyed and slimy animal. I was petrified.

My Rough Draft

Last summer, my family decided to spend the last week of vacation with my cousin Amanda, who lives in Leominster. The next day was very nice and warm. We all wanted to be outside doing something fun and not in the house. My daughter Annissa came with the idea of a family picnic. Everybody agreed with her idea. We packed our special West Indian  food and materials, and headed up to Johny Apple Seed Park. When we got there, we chose a spot, fixed our stuff, and took a tour throughout the land. The tour was beautiful, as it was our first time being there. However, when we got to the lake, I was frightened by one of my biggest childhood fears; a big, red and slimy frog.

Post 1 One Goal & One Thing I Already do Well

One of my goals is to get to know my professor, to follow the class rules, done  all my assignments, so I can pass the class.

One of the things I already do well is to write about a city that I visited with a vivid explanation to keep the reader's attention.
